Taking place at the Collisheen Estate from the 2nd-4th July 2010, Ballito is celebrating its
inaugural Prawn and Jazz Festival.
An entire weekend dedicated to prawns, jazz, entertainment, shopping, and sporting events . . . sounds almost too good to be true, right? Wrong!
Ballito is the new winter hot spot with a host of exciting activities, for the most fun you’ll have this winter. With almost perfect weather all year round, gorgeous beaches, and emerging music mystro’s, Ballito is well on its way to becoming one of the trendiest destinations in the country.
Similar to the Knysna Oyster Festival, the three-day Prawn Festival will take place on the first weekend of the Mr Price Pro surfing competition. It will showcase the beautiful North Coast as a prime winter holiday destination and also raise money for the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.
The Festival program will comprise of sports, music, food, extreme sports, a moonlight market, interior design and outdoor living exhibitions, live jazz and loads of activities for the kids for the whole weekend!
The festival will be held at the Collisheen Estate, but Ballito will buzz with Festival Fever as there will be festival specials and live Jazz music at various restaurants and shopping centres in Ballito over this time.
The Festival promises something for everyone; for the food connoisseur the Mozambican Seafood Market sponsored by SPAR – a family picnic setting for you to relax and enjoy your prawn feast as the mellow sounds of Jazz fills the air. For the thirsty, a large SAB beer tent equipped with plasma screens for the sports enthusiast viewing pleasure. A weekend of International and local Jazz talent taking centre stage and entertaining all festival visitors over the 3 day period.
The Crafters Market and Collectable Fair will offer exquisite selections of handcrafted articles and rare collectable and antiques- shop to the sounds of jazz.
The Kiddies Carnival and Expo boasting 5000sqm to keep kids entertained for hours. Favourite characters such as Simba Lion, Barney scratch Patch, Jelly Tot Worm plus more characters will also be making appearances.
The entertainment program is exciting and focused on family fun, with the celebrity cook-off a real attraction, as eight top chefs each partnered with a celebrity assistant, create a gourmet delight from a mystery basket. The Outdoor Living area offering the men a range of exciting “toys for boys” and all the latest gadgets for camping, braaing and outdoor living. For a taste of Mother Earth, visit the Organic and Farmers Market where you can enjoy and take home organic treats.
For the Sports enthusiast, ESA based in Ballito will host the weekends fishing competition, you can fish with the Supersport PRO’s. On Friday, 02 July the focus will be on a kids’ fun fishing clinic. On Saturday, 03 July anyone can enter a 4-Rod team and have the pleasure of fishing with the ESA champs and on Sunday, the Dads n Lads Bass Fishing Competition.
Two MTB challenges will be hosted at “Holla Trails” at the Collisheen Estate. On Friday, 02 July 2010, the sports program will kick-off with the Kiddies Spur “Sugar Rush” MTB race, on Saturday, 03 July 2010, the aQuelle “Sugar Rush” RUN & RIDE challenge will start the day.
The 4 Wheel Drive Club of Southern Africa will be hosting a regional 4x4 competition and an exciting Golf Day will be hosted at the Simbithi Eco Estate Country Club.
This Festival promises to be the best weekend of your 2010 winter.
